COURSE: US AND THE ROMANS. ASPECTS OF ROMAN HISTORY, CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION AND THEIR RECEPTION – Universitat a l’Abast
We will explore some of the most significant aspects of the Roman historical and cultural heritage, as well as the processes, intermediaries, and key moments through which Roman culture has permeated our identity—from everyday life to the major milestones of Western culture. We will discuss the processes of adaptation from pagan culture to Christianity; the Latin language and its evolution into the Romance languages; Roman customs and practices present in our daily lives; Roman urban planning and engineering; and later uses and reinterpretations of episodes, figures, and symbols from Roman history, among others. Ultimately, we will demonstrate that Roman culture permeates our DNA.
