Cycle: Europe, uncertain times: Economic policy, technological dependence, trade flows (Andreu Mas Colell)

Europe, uncertain times

Given the situation of profound changes in today's geopolitics, we ask ourselves what the role of the European Union should be. We defend the need to raise the issues of what is "living, current history", we need to provide tools to understand not only the past but also the current world that will be history tomorrow.

As citizens of the EU we are interested in understanding where we are going with a broad vision, overcoming the Catalan and Spanish perspective, starting from the centrality of the EU. How do Donald Trump's tariff policies affect us? What is the economic role of China? How do we deal with defense needs, what is happening with NATO, should we rearm? Where and from whom do we buy weapons? Is Putin's Russia a real threat beyond the invasion and war in Ukraine? How can the rise of the far right in different member states be explained? Will the welfare state policies, which have been the common axis of the member states and a distinctive feature of the EU itself, be dismantled? Is democracy in danger? What about the aging of the European population and migratory flows? Should they be regulated? Should the borders be closed? (see poster).

The project has been developed jointly by the Bosch i Cardellach Foundation and the Aula Universitària de Sabadell, for the Elderly, and has the collaboration of the Fundació Catalunya-Europa.
