Everyone is talking about quantum computing, both inside and outside the academic world. Right now, various technologies are being developed around the world to create the first quantum computer with real-world impact.
We will explore these technologies—both fascinating and complex—by first addressing the basic concepts of quantum computing and how to translate theoretical ideas into a working device, and one that works well. We’ll discover superconducting qubits, one of the technologies currently under development, and discuss their performance and limitations. Drawing on technological advances taking place in Barcelona and the Vallès region, the talk will also provide a broader view of the short- and long-term challenges ahead.
