II/III: Rodoreda and the theatre

By Xavier Serrat y Brustenga, PhD in Catalan Language and Literature and Performing Arts.

Xavier Serrat holds a degree in Humanities (UAB, 2006) and a PhD in Catalan Language and Literature and Performing Arts (UAB, 2021). He holds a Master's degree in Language Consultancy, Language Policy and Multilingualism Management and Publishing Services (UB). She is a teacher. Her research has basically focused on two authors: Mercè Rodoreda and Joan Brossa.

From 1975 to the present day, the contribution of the performing arts to the patrimonialisation of Mercè Rodoreda's work has been decisive; not only have they disseminated her narrative to new audiences, but they have also provided new readings that allow the ideology of the original texts to be brought into dialogue with the values of each historical moment. Over the years, moreover, the figure of Mercè Rodoreda and her life have become increasingly present on the stage, a fact that allows us to reflect on the figure of the writer in the 21st century. Also, in comparison with the luck that her narrative has had, we will have to consider the reasons why Rodoreda's dramatic work has been so little represented: it is unknown, it is not very current, it is bad...
