Scholar and professor Enric Gallén Miret will deliver a lecture entitled “Theatrical Censorship in Catalonia: Text and Performance During the Franco Dictatorship”, focusing on the ideological and political control exerted by the Franco regime over theatrical productions in Catalonia. The session will examine how censorship impacted both the written texts and stage performances, restricting artistic freedom and shaping the trajectory of Catalan theatre for decades.
Enric Gallén Miret holds a degree and a PhD in Catalan Philology from the University of Barcelona. With an extensive academic career, he is a leading authority on 20th-century Catalan literature and theatre, especially regarding the intersection of culture and authoritarian power during Francoism.
