Nexe AmicsUAB: Desired solitude or social isolation? Impacts on the mental health of older adults, by Guillermo Parra.
Guillermo Parra Lorenzo, psychologist and associate professor in the Department of Basic, Evolutionary and Educational Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology of the UAB, focuses his research and teaching on mental health, adult psychopathology, and emotional well-being. Drawing on his clinical and academic experience, he will reflect on one of today’s major challenges: loneliness and its effects on the mental health of older adults.
In this session, Parra will analyze the difference between chosen and unwanted solitude, as well as the social isolation fostered by the digitalization of everyday life. The lecture will offer a human and scientific perspective on how these phenomena affect physical and emotional well-being and will propose strategies to promote inclusion, diversity, and the maintenance of meaningful connections throughout the life cycle.
This conference will be an opportunity to reflect on loneliness and isolation in old age, their effects on mental and physical health, and how to foster inclusion and social bonds.
