The 21st edition of the AmicsUAB Party was held on November 16th at 7:00 PM at Casa Convalescència, located at Carrer de Sant Antoni Maria Claret, Barcelona.
The event was a great success and a meeting point where many people enjoyed the company of old friends. The names of the awardees were highlighted, such as Margarita Arboix, Xavier Montalban, Jesús Alturo, Tània Alaix, Martí Pumarola, Josep del Hoyo, Jordi Sargatal, and prestigious entities linked to the UAB, such as Eurecat. Everyone enjoyed the performance of the UAB Chamber Choir.
The event was led by Carles Prats, a graduate in Journalism from the Autonomous University and former presenter of TV3's noon newscast. The event was presided over by the Magnificent Mr. Javier Lafuente, rector of the UAB, Dr. Susanna Baqué, president of AmicsUAB, and Ms. Tània Nadal, president of the Social Council.
President Susanna Baqué opened the event with a balance of the current status of the association, addressing topics such as the renewal of its statutes, the new image of Amics UAB, and the reactivation of social networks, among other topics. Everything aimed at the association's main goal of connecting society with the University. With 34 years of history, AmicsUAB is the oldest entity linking students and the university in Catalonia and the second in Spain, after the University of Salamanca, and has always been a laboratory of ideas.
THE AWARDEES
Amics de les Biblioteques Award
First, the Amigo de las Bibliotecas Award was presented to individuals or entities who contribute their time or resources to the libraries of the University. Ms. Núria Casaldàliga, director of the Library Service of the UAB, announced the two winners of this year's award. The Lynx Publishing House, dedicated to publishing books on ornithology and nature, was one of the winners for its contributions to the UAB. Jordi Sargatal and Josep del Hoyo collected the award.
Professor Martí Pumarola, veterinarian and promoter of the Catalan Association of the History of Veterinary Medicine, was another recipient of the Amics de les Biblioteques Award, which he received with great enthusiasm.
Col·lectiu UAB Award
Second, the Col·lectiu UAB Award was presented to UAB entities working to improve the University’s services. This year, the award was given to Eurecat. The president of the Social Council, Ms. Tània Nadal, presented the award, which was collected by Mr. Xavier López, Corporate General Director of Operations at Eurecat, and Mr. Ricard Jiménez, Scientific Director of the Industrial Area at Eurecat.
Amics’ Board of Directors decided to award Eurecat, the Technology Center of Catalonia, the Col·lectiu UAB Award for its work within the regional industrial fabric linked to the UAB and in the field of artificial intelligence.
Amic dels Amics Award
Lastly, the Amic dels Amics Awards were given to individuals who have had distinguished careers related to the University and society. The awardees were Professor Montalban, Jesús Alt
