Specifically, the event will begin with a Feminist Self-Defense Workshop from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, led by Karin Konkle, a renowned feminist self-defense specialist with over 20 years of experience teaching personal defense strategies for women.

She has conducted courses in academic institutions, businesses, and feminist organizations, promoting self-defense not only as a physical skill but also as a tool for emotional and mental empowerment for women. She is the author of books such as “Are You Safe? Self-Defense and the Keys to True Security” and “Feminist Self-Defense for Everyone.”

This workshop represents a valuable opportunity for participants to acquire practical and psychological tools to face risky situations with greater control and confidence.

Following this, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, there will be a Roundtable Discussion on Gender-Based Violence featuring experts in areas such as justice, security, psychology, and victim support:

  • Paula Narbona, lawyer specializing in violence against women.
  • Lidia Ballesta, professor of International Public Law at UAB.
  • Gloria Ortega, professor of Civil Law at UAB.
  • Jenny Cubells, professor of Social Psychology at UAB.
  • Eva Álvarez, sub-inspector and head of the Regional Area for Public Safety, Community Policing, and Victim Support.
  • Natalia Montesinos, representative of the Women’s Support Service.

During the roundtable, the panelists will address key topics related to gender-based violence, including initial steps to take after an assault, how to report and gather evidence for a trial, and the psychological impact on victims. Legal frameworks for addressing gender-based violence in different countries, immediate protection measures, and support services such as psychological assistance and legal counseling will also be discussed. Finally, digital gender violence, including cyberstalking and controlling behavior in relationships, will be explored.

This event aims to raise awareness, promote dialogue, and provide training within the university community.
