Antoni Serra Ramoneda, a key figure at the UAB, has left us.

The AmicsUAB community joins in mourning the death of Antoni Serra Ramoneda, professor in the Department of Business Studies, member of the founding team of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and rector of the UAB between 1980 and 1985.

Serra Ramoneda played a key role in the early years of the University. He was secretary of the promoting committee and the first governing board of the UAB, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, and director of the Institute of Education Sciences, before taking on the rectorship at a key moment for institutional consolidation.

During his term as rector, the UAB approved its statutes, becoming the first university in Spain to do so, and promoted the Special Plan for Internal Reform of the Campus. His time at the helm of the University contributed decisively to laying the foundations for a modern, interdisciplinary UAB committed to research and knowledge transfer.

Throughout his career, he also held positions of great importance in the academic and institutional spheres and received numerous distinctions, such as the Cross of Sant Jordi and the NarcĂs Monturiol Medal.

AmicsUAB would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire university community, and we remember Antoni Serra Ramoneda as a key figure in the history of the UAB.
