Rubí hosts the conference The implementation of AI as a support for medical decisions (civil liability issues) by UAB Doctor of Law Sandra Camacho.
The Mestre Martí i Tauler Library in Rubí was the setting for a conference on digital health and Artificial Intelligence by Dr. Camacho, an expert in this field. The event was attended by around twenty attendees who actively participated in the question and answer session at the end of the session.
During her speech, Dr. Camacho analyzed the impact of new technologies on healthcare and the legal implications associated with the provision of remote medical services. She also highlighted the importance of adapting the regulatory framework to this innovative model, a task on which she works in collaboration with several institutions.
One of the central topics was the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector. According to Dr. Camacho, these systems are already being implemented in pilot tests to help medical staff perform better screening and reduce saturation of hospital emergency rooms. They can also be useful in image-based diagnostics in specialties such as dermatology and oncology, as well as in the prediction of complex pathologies such as obesity.
The speaker addressed the ethical and legal issues raised by AI in medicine, such as liability in the event of errors. The European Union is currently working on a regulatory framework to clarify these issues, especially in relation to the liability of doctors who use these systems. According to Camacho, AI will not replace healthcare professionals, but it will transform the way they act and the standards of conduct that will be required of them.
The event concluded with an open debate in which attendees shared doubts and reflections on the use of technology in the healthcare field and its impact on the future of medical care.
