On May 30th, the Sagarra Hall of the Ateneu Barcelonès hosted a new session of the A Coffee with Law series, featuring the lecture “Without Law, There Is No Society: A Journey into Ancient Law”, delivered by Dr. Stefania Giombini. The event was presented and moderated by Professor Alfredo Ramírez, lecturer in Constitutional Law at the UAB.
Dr. Giombini offered a rigorous and engaging exploration of the foundations of law in antiquity, highlighting its key role as a structure of cohesion and order in early civilizations. Through a historical and conceptual journey, she emphasized how ancient legal systems continue to influence the rules and values of modern societies.
Among the topics addressed were the relationship between law and power, the symbolism of ancient legislation, and the ways in which these legal structures both reflected and constrained the social and political organization of their time.
For those who could not attend, a knowledge capsule summarizing the key points of the lecture will be available soon.
This was the penultimate session of the A Coffee with Law series, which will soon conclude with a final conference that promises to continue raising important questions about the major challenges of contemporary law. We look forward to seeing you there!
