On April 27th, the deadline for submitting original works for the first edition of the "Pensar más" Young Essay Award – Memorial Gabriel Ferrater, organized by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council, and the Gabriel Ferrater Association, will close.
The award is dedicated to the intellectual figure of Gabriel Ferrater, and to the legacy left by his literary work and thinking. It aims to pay tribute to the effort he dedicated to helping poets, students, and younger readers "think more." With this prize, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Gabriel Ferrater Association, and the Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council want to promote writing and critical thinking among young people (writers, university students, and researchers) interested in any branch of knowledge, thus contributing to the development of scientific writing, intelligence, and imagination, as Gabriel Ferrater did in his texts, lectures, and university lessons.
In this first edition, the jury is composed of professors from UAB from various specialties, as well as other individuals of recognized prestige for their academic or intellectual contributions: Salvador Cardús, Marina Garcés, David Jou, Jordi Julià, and Marta Pessarrodona.
The award is open to any subject as long as the works have a reflective or practical purpose, with rigor and a divulgative goal, following the creative and communicative spirit of Gabriel Ferrater. Authors up to 35 years of age can apply, and the winning work will receive a 6,000 € prize, along with its publication under the UAB Publications Service. The rules of the competition can be found on the literary contest's website.
