On March 17, Dr. Margarita López gave a lecture focused on the role of women’s work from a historical perspective, in a session organized by AmicsUAB in collaboration with the Aula d’Extensió Universitària de Rubí. The event, which began at 6:00 p.m., took place at the headquarters of the Fundació Vallhonrat de Rubí and was attended by around thirty people, mostly women.
During her talk, Dr. López highlighted the systematic invisibility of women’s work throughout history, despite its essential contribution to economic and social development. Through a journey across different historical periods, she showed how many tasks carried out by women, both in the domestic and productive spheres, have been excluded from official narratives and economic statistics.
The speaker also emphasized how this lack of recognition has had consequences for the social and economic valuation of women’s work, as well as for the persistence of gender inequalities that continue to this day.
The session sparked an engaging discussion among attendees, who shared reflections and experiences related to the topic. The event is part of AmicsUAB’s program of activities aimed at promoting knowledge dissemination and critical reflection on current issues from a historical and social perspective.
Below, we include a capsule by Margarita López, where she provides a summary of the topics covered in her lecture.
