On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Father Efrem de Montellà, prefect of the Escolania de Montserrat, delivered the lecture “Montserratine Music”, marking the start of the Montserrat Millennium Cycle.
The event was an exciting journey through the musical tradition of the monastery, highlighting the essential role of music in the Montserrat liturgy, as well as the origin and evolution of the Escolania. Father Efrem emphasized the importance of the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, the great composers linked to the Montserratine School, and the profound influence it has had on the development of music in the country.
The lecture also served to open perspectives for the future, presenting challenges and aspirations for the second millennium, reinforcing the idea that music remains one of the essential pillars of Montserrat’s identity.
With this inaugural session, Montserrat kicks off a commemorative cycle aimed at celebrating a thousand years of spirituality, culture, and living heritage, with music as a universal language and symbol of continuity.
