Salvador Cardús: Between Teaching, Research, and Public Debate

AmicsUAB is honouring him for his contribution to social thought and public debate, which has brought university knowledge closer to society.

A sociologist, lecturer, researcher and leading public intellectual, Salvador Cardús has built his career at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he has been an associate professor of Sociology in the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, serving as its dean from 2009 to 2011. His research has focused on the sociology of religion and culture and on media analysis.

At the same time, he has carried this thinking into public debate. He has written for the newspapers Avui, La Vanguardia, Diari de Terrassa and Ara, contributed to Catalunya Ràdio, and published essays such as El desconcert de l’educació and Ben educats. His work has earned him, among other honours, the National Journalism Award (1994) and the Serra i Moret Award for Civic Values (1995).

His contribution to social thought has always been driven by a clear purpose: ensuring that the knowledge generated at the university reaches society. It is precisely this connection that the AmicsUAB Board of Directors wished to recognise, as it reflects the very spirit of the association.

For all these reasons, he is one of this year’s Amics dels Amics.
