On 21 October, Torre Vila-Puig hosted a new Vespre entre Amics, a discussion exploring Europe’s major challenges and the role of the European Union in addressing them.
Organised by the AmicsUAB association, the event featured talks by Josep Maria de Dios, former director of the Institute of European Studies, whose academic career and close ties to the institute provided valuable insights into the evolution of the European project and the challenges it faces, and Antoni Abat, the institute’s current director, who contributes to promoting academic study and reflection on Europe and its institutions.
The discussion addressed some of the European Union’s main current challenges, including security, immigration, housing, the green transition and citizen participation in Europe’s future. Salvem Europa aims to create a space for dialogue where participants can question, debate and better understand the EU’s response to these challenges, how it protects our rights and freedoms and, above all, what role citizens play in shaping its future.
Ultimately, the key takeaway from the discussion was clear: Europe’s future depends not only on its institutions, but also on the involvement and commitment of its citizens.
