On Thursday, November 21, the 22nd edition of the AmicsUAB Awards Party took place, an event organized by Amics de la UAB at the Casa de Convalescence of the Sant Pau Hospital, which gathered more than 100 attendees. This celebration aimed to recognize excellence in various fields such as academic research, health, communication, and the defense of social and cultural values.
During the opening, the president of AmicsUAB, Susanna Baqué, reviewed the most significant advances of the entity during 2024, such as the renewal of the website, which seeks to improve communication and the user experience, with a more modern design and more accessible content. She also highlighted the activities carried out, such as the NEXE AmicsUAB Conferences, the Knowledge Capsules, and the creation of a new WhatsApp community, “The Voice of AmicsUAB,” to keep members informed in an agile manner.
The event included the new award in collaboration with the Massana School to recognize art and creativity. This year, the First Massana Award went to Noé Aceitón Ramiro for the work "The Garden of Knowledge," which symbolizes the constant search for knowledge. Due to the proximity of the scores, an honorable mention was awarded to Aaron Ortiz Thorogood for his work "Urge," inspired by the Turing Pattern, which represents the exchange between order and chaos in research.
The Amigo de los Amigos Awards recognized several individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields. Among the winners were Dr. Elena Galea (posthumously), in recognition of her work in health research; Dr. Maite Martín Ibáñez, for her work in public health and the One Health concept; Dr. Salvador Barberà Sández, for his academic career in the field of economics; and Dr. Mónica Terribas y Sala, for her defense of freedom of expression and ethical communication. The UAB Collective Award was also presented to the Football Club Barcelona, for its commitment to sports and society, with a special mention for the professionalization of women's sports. Finally, the Amigo de las Bibliotecas Award was given to the Institute of the History of Science for its work in preserving and disseminating scientific heritage.
As a reminder of their recognition, all the winners received a reproduction of the winning work of the Massana Award, "The Garden of Knowledge," signed by its author, Noé Aceitón, as well as a trophy inspired by the AmicsUAB logo.

At AmicsUAB, we act with a social cause. The catering service at the end of the party was provided by BonCor, which stands out for its commitment to the labor insertion of people at risk of social exclusion. We take these values into account in all of our choices.
