Last Thursday, the third edition of the Festa del Solstici was held, a meeting that has established itself as one of the most outstanding events of the AmicsUAB calendar. The evening brought together partners, members of the UAB government team, institutional representatives and friends of the entity in an environment of great human quality, marked by culture, coexistence and shared commitment to the values that inspire the activity of AmicsUAB.
The celebration began with the words of Marta Bertran, Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences, who defended the importance of peace, diversity and dialogue as essential values to build a fairer and more cohesive society, in tune with the spirit of the Solstice Festival.
Under the slogan “Culture, music and words for a better world”, guests enjoyed a particularly significant program. One of the most emotional moments was the tribute to Pau Casals, a universal figure of Catalan culture and an international benchmark in the defense of peace and human rights. The act consisted of a multilingual reading of the speech that Casals gave to the United Nations General Assembly in 1971, with the participation of volunteers who gave voice to his message in different languages. The speech was followed by the performance of El Cant dels Ocells by the duo Clarobscur (Gorka Albiol and Yael Vidal), a performance that brought sensitivity and emotion to the celebration.
The evening also included the recording of the desires for peace. Attendees were invited to write their longings and wills for a better world. All messages were deposited in a time capsule that will be opened in five years, becoming a symbol of hope and collective commitment to future generations. This repository of memories has been buried at the foot of the olive tree by Rosa Carrió and Joan Botella, historical partners and members of the Advisory Council, who planted this tree in the gardens of the headquarters of AmicsUAB on the occasion of its 30th anniversary and who, coinciding with this commemoration, have also been in charge of burying the time capsule.
The party concluded with the traditional institutional toast, by Susanna Baqué, president of AmicsUAB, and Javier Lafuente, rector of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), who highlighted the value of community, culture and knowledge as engines of social transformation and coexistence.
AmicsUAB would like to thank the participation of all the attendees, as well as the collaboration of the entities, institutions and volunteers that have contributed to the success of this third edition. With this new celebration, AmicsUAB reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of knowledge, culture and values of coexistence, consolidating the Solstice Festival as a space for meeting and reflection open to the entire community.
