The Mestre Martí Tauler Library hosts the conference “Towards Sustainable Urban Transport”

On April 21, the Mestre Martí Tauler Library in Rubí hosted the conference “Towards Sustainable Urban Transport”, delivered by David Esteban Palma Araneda, lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The event, organized in collaboration with the Aula d'Extensió Universitària de Rubí, brought together between 20 and 25 attendees.

During his talk, Palma analyzed the main challenges of current urban transport, focusing on the consequences of the widespread use of the private car, such as congestion, pollution, and unsustainable urban sprawl. In this context, he emphasized that despite technological advances such as electric or autonomous vehicles, these do not solve the key issue of efficiency in the use of urban space.

The speaker defended a mobility model that prioritizes walking, cycling, and public transport, as well as the need to promote denser, human-scale urban planning. He also presented different strategies studied in research, such as penalizing private car use or incentivizing active modes of transport.

The conference capsule is now available on our YouTube channel, where it can be viewed here.
