The UAB Veterinary Clinical Hospital, Teresa Rigau, and Joaquim Segalés Honored at the VETS 2021 Awards


The Official College of Veterinarians of Barcelona launched the second edition of the prestigious VETS Awards in 2021. This year, the main goal was to recognize the best initiatives in the veterinary field. A highlight of this new edition was the introduction of new categories to include a broader range of areas within veterinary practice and interest.

The Autonomous University of Barcelona received three awards: one for the Veterinary Clinical Hospital, another for Professor Teresa Rigau, and a third for Professor Joaquim Segalés.

In the veterinary clinic category, the work of the UAB Veterinary Clinical Hospital was recognized for its "care for companion animals." Additionally, initiatives that improved animal care services were commended. The award was received by Sílvia Alonso, Director of the Veterinary Clinical Hospital Foundation, and Javier Lafuente, Rector of the UAB.

Moreover, Professor Teresa Rigau from the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery, a pioneer and role model for women in veterinary medicine, was honored for her outstanding professional career, having contributed significantly to the growth and development of the veterinary field.

Finally, Professor Joaquim Segalés from the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy and a researcher at the Animal Health Research Center (IRTA-CRESA), was awarded the research prize for his work in the fields of porcine pathologies and zoonotic coronaviruses.
