RFID technology is now available in UAB libraries
RFID technology is now available at the Communication and General Newspaper Library, the Science and Technology Library, and the Veterinary Library. This technology speeds up the document lending process, allowing users to complete the borrowing process autonomously. This significantly improves the security systems of the collections. Additionally, it enhances document identification and inventory management.
RFID is a technology that can transmit a series of data through radio waves. With the readers and chips it contains, it replaces the old barcode system and installs the new technology. Throughout 2021, the change was being prepared, and the labeling of 140,000 documents was implemented. Furthermore, self-checkout machines have been introduced in the libraries and are already operating normally.
This system is expected to continue developing in 2022 and 2023, so that all libraries within the UAB Library Service will have it available.
