Casa de Convalescència in Barcelona will host the outreach event One Health: Connecting Science and Public Policy on 4 November at 5 pm. The event will bring together representatives of public administrations and experts from UAB and other institutions to discuss global health challenges.
This initiative is based on the One Health approach, promoted by the One Health Platform, which encourages activities aimed at advancing the effective implementation of this strategy. One Health adopts an integrated perspective on human, animal and environmental health and seeks to incorporate this approach into public policy.
The programme will begin with a presentation by María dels Àngels Calvo Torras, president of the Catalan Academy of Veterinary Sciences and professor emerita at UAB’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, who will discuss the origins and evolution of the One Health concept. This will be followed by a roundtable on global health challenges, featuring experts including Enric Mateu de Antonio, Joan Pino Vilalta and Laila Darwich Soliva, who are involved in university research and teaching, as well as Jacobo Mendioroz Peña, Deputy Director General for Public Health Surveillance and Emergency Response at the Public Health Agency of Catalonia. Representatives of the Government of Catalonia working in public health, agriculture and ecological transition will also take part.
The programme will also feature the presentation of the Guide to Implementing the One Health Approach in Public Policy, delivered by Maite Martín Ibáñez, UAB professor and president of the One Health Platform.
The event will highlight the importance of collaboration between the scientific community and public institutions in developing policies that integrate human, animal and ecosystem health.
The event will conclude at 7.30 pm, following an afternoon dedicated to sharing knowledge and fostering dialogue between research and public action.
