UAB, the top general university in Spain for Horizon 2020 fund acquisition.


The UAB has participated in 191 projects of the European Horizon 2020 program, with a total funding of 85.89 million euros according to the data from the EC Dashboard.

The European funding program for research and innovation, Horizon 2020, has concluded with excellent results for UAB. In terms of global position compared to other research entities, UAB is the third university in Spain receiving the most funding and the seventh research entity in the country.

The university has participated in a total of 191 H2020 projects, obtaining a total of 85.89 million euros in funding. This is a significant improvement compared to the previous European research funding program, where UAB obtained 42.91 million euros for 160 projects.

Projects related to the environment and resource efficiency have been the most funded, with a total of 7.22 million euros, followed by those related to food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime research, and freshwater, with 4.18 million euros.

The Horizon 2020 program had a total budget of 76.88 billion euros for the EU member states, structured in several pillars. UAB received 58.99 million in the Excellent Science pillar; 20.39 million in the Societal Challenges pillar; 3.82 million in the Industrial Leadership pillar; and 1.29 million in Science with and for Society. Additionally, UAB received 594,587€ for transversal projects, 422,923€ in participation and dissemination of excellence; as well as 372,312€ for the Euroatom research and training program.
