On Wednesday, November 29th, the conference "Alicia de Larrocha and Victòria dels Àngels, Two Great Performers of Catalan Music" took place, given by Professor Francesc Cortès, Coordinator of the Musicology Degree at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and expert in classical music. The event gathered around forty music lovers, some true music enthusiasts, at the Mestre Martí Tauler Library in Rubí.
Francesc Cortès highlighted the similarities between these two world-renowned Catalan performers and the differences in their professional and personal careers. Both collaborated throughout their careers, and both are known for their discretion, professionalism, and seriousness, with their musical sound described as clear and technically precise.
Alicia Larrocha, pianist, received the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award and four Grammy Awards, among others. She also left behind a school of pianists that continues what is known as the Catalan piano school. On the other hand, Victòria dels Àngels, soprano and opera singer, was included in BBC Music Magazine’s list of the top twenty sopranos, ranking third. Of both Alicia and Victòria, Professor Cortès concluded: "they placed themselves at the service of art."
To conclude, he recommended two exhibitions: one at Palau Güell and the other at Palau Robert in Barcelona, where you can deepen your knowledge of these two great Catalan performers and listen to some of their recordings.
This conference is part of the Universitat Opina cycle, organized by AmicsUAB in collaboration with the Aula d'Extensió Universitària de Rubí and the Mestre Martí Tauler Library of the same town.
