Nexe AmicsUAB: "The hidden power of everyday movement: a look at incidental physical activity"

On December 9th at 6 pm at the Mestre Martí Tauler Library (Rubí), Dr. Eva Parrado will give us a conference on the physical activity we do in our daily movements.
Place: Biblioteca Mestre Martí Tuler (Rubí)

The conference proposes a different view of physical activity, far from the classic conception more linked to the practice of sports, gyms or more structured exercise. The concept of incidental physical activity will be presented, understood as all those daily movements that we perform without the intention of “exercising”, but which, according to the most recent scientific evidence, can have a positive impact on health.

Based on a review of 55 studies published between 1999 and 2024, it will be explained how it has been observed that daily activities such as climbing stairs, walking to run errands, moving around at work, playing with children or doing housework, can reduce the risk of mortality and improve physical and mental well-being. The talk will put into context the change of perspective promoted by international organizations such as the WHO, which today affirm that “every movement counts”, even those that last less than a minute and that historically were not considered relevant from a public health perspective.

The conference aims to raise awareness and empower the audience, showing that it is not necessary to have time, equipment or sports motivation to integrate movement into daily life. It will also address how this approach can facilitate more inclusive strategies to promote active lifestyles, especially among people who do not identify with traditional exercise or who feel barriers to incorporating it into their routine.

The talk will combine scientific dissemination, close examples and practical recommendations that can inspire attendees to improve their healthy active lifestyle, with a clear and motivating message: health can begin in small daily gestures, without changing the agenda, but the perspective.
